Discover the canals
If there is one thing associated with Amsterdam it’s the cities famous historic canals. Built in the 17th Century during the country’s Golden Century, the main canals Herengracht, Keizersgracht, Prinsengracht and Singel formed what today is called the ‘grachtengordel’. Impressive houses along the canals, bridges far beyond your ability to count and enclosed gardens, a stroll alongs these and all other canals and the Amstel river is a definite must-do when you’re in Amsterdam. You can either explore them by foot, bike or take a canal tour. The ‘grachtengordel’ has been listed as UNESCO World Heritage since 2010.

Visit the interactive Amsterdam Dungeon
If you are looking for some entertainment during your visit, than the Amsterdam Dungeon is one of the coolest things to do in Amsterdam. During an 80-minute interactive tour, you discover 500 years of spooky history of the city. Live actors, special effects, attractions and more. You sort of walk through the dungeon, stepping into 11 different shows, watching your back for surprises by the actors. Tours are available in English and are a unique, kind of scary but fun way to learn about the history of Amsterdam.

Catch a movie at the stunning Tuschinski Theater
Can your feet do with a bit of rest or it is pouring down rain and you seek a place to hide it out? We suggest you go catch a movie at the Tuschinski Theater. The art deco, jugendstil and Amsterdamse School theatre was built in 1921 by Abraham Tuschinski and is one of the most beautiful buildings in the country. Today it is a cinema where you can watch all blockbusters as well as art house movies. A bonus for non-Dutch speakers: all movies are subtitled and spoken in their original language in the Netherlands!
