Antwerp Hands

Those that visit Antwerp’s many chocolatiers and patissiers will instantly spot the famous Antwerp Hands: biscuits or chocolates in the shape of a raised hand! Its ingredients are butter, sugar, eggs, flour and a dash of grated almonds. The Antwerp Hands are known as the ‘prince of desserts’. Legend has it that the city was once under the dominion of the fearsome giant Druoon Antigoon who levied a toll from all skippers that sailed by him on the River Scheldt. Those that refused to pay would have their hands cut off by Druoon Antigoon. In the end, he was killed by Silvius Brabo who cut off Antigoon’s own hands and threw them into the river.
