Legend has it that Diederik van de Elzas, the Count of Flanders, brought back the relic of the Holy Blood with him from the Holy Land after the Second Crusade. The Holy or Precious Blood of Bruges is a relic of the Holy Blood of Jesus Christ, that's normally housed in the Holy Blood Basilica in Bruges. Each year the sacred relic is honoured by tens of thousands of pilgrims in the elaborate Procession of the Holy Blood on Ascension Day. If you can't manage to be there on 13 May 2010, all is not lost. The relic is proffered to believers every Friday.
