Vesuvio Café

My guide Last update 1 year ago
© Luis Villa del Campo
A café as fabulous as it is beautiful: Vesuvio Café on Columbus Street. This café first opened its doors back in 1948 and has been a meeting place for San Francisco’s poets, artists, chess players, taxi drivers and jazz musicians ever since. Vesuvio Café is one big melting pot where people from all walks of life come together under one roof which makes this place a charming and pleasant one! It was also the regular hangout of one of America’s great poets and writers: Jack Kerouac. The world famous City Lights Bookstore is located next door to Vesuvio Café and its clientele often pops into the café for a beverage or two. The café also featured in several Hollywood productions so if it looks familiar to you, you’ll know why!
