De Helpoort in Maastricht is de oudste stadspoort van Nederland. Zij maakte deel uit van een stadsmuur die in 1229 werd gebouwd, nadat Hendrik I, Hertog van Brabant, daartoe toestemming had gegeven. Twee eeuwen lang diende de poort als verdediging van de stad. Toen er in de 15e eeuw een tweede verdedigingsmuur werd gebouwd, verloor de poort haar verdedigingsfunctie. Daarna werd zij onder andere gebruikt als kruitmagazijn, woning en vergaderplaats. Er is tegenwoordig een expositie in de poort aanwezig over de vestinggeschiedenis van Maastricht. Ook kun je de eeuwenoude torens beklimmen.
