Itali\u00eb is een land gevuld met klokkentorens die losstaan van het heilige gebouw waar zij bij horen. Ook in Florence is de klokkentoren los van de Duomo (Dom) gebouwd. De Campanile is ontworpen door Giotto in 1334. De kerktoren is door drie verschillende mensen gebouwd, dit valt ook goed te zien aan de diverse elementen. De verandering in stijl is telkens goed zichtbaar. De toren is 85 meter hoog en heeft 416 traptreden.
