International Iris Competition

My guide Last update 1 year ago

In May every year Florence's renowned Iris Garden opens its gates for the International Iris Competition. Before the irises enter the competition they are first lovingly nurtured over a period of three years. The flowers are judged on colour, fragrance, form and their resistance to disease. There's a special prize, the Florino D'Oro, for the iris that most closely resembles the iris in Florence's coat of arms. The prize-giving ceremony is held in Palazzo Vecchio. Even if you're not a big flower fan, it's still fun to have a look at the irises' vibrant colours.
