Cycling is not the best way to travel in Budapest. Major roads in Budapest don't even have paths for cyclists and most of them are even forbidden to cyclists. Furthermore, you should really watch out for trams and bumpy roads. There are some places where you can rent a bicycle, like at Bikebase. On Margaretha Island, it's very nice to cycle, even for kids. The island also has a number of bicycle rental places.
